
Roy Akarakian
Dr. Roy Akarakian is a highly skilled orthopedic and sports medicine specialist dedicated to providing exceptional musculoskeletal care. As part of the esteemed team at Premier Orthopaedic and Trauma Specialists, he helps patients recover from injuries and optimize their physical performance.
Dr. Akarakian began his academic journey at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) before earning his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He remained in Detroit to complete his residency in emergency medicine and fellowship training in sports medicine, gaining extensive experience in sports-related injuries, orthopedic procedures, and regenerative medicine.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Akarakian currently serves as a team physician for the USC Trojans football team and the Los Angeles Kings professional hockey team. His work with elite athletes—along with previous roles caring for the Detroit Red Wings hockey team and Detroit City FC soccer club—has given him firsthand experience in managing high-performance injuries, optimizing recovery strategies, and utilizing cutting-edge treatment techniques.
An active contributor to academic medicine, Dr. Akarakian has authored multiple scholarly publications and frequently participates in medical conferences and workshops. He has also taught ultrasound workshops and lectured at international conferences with the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society (MUSOC) in Spain, Peru, and Chile, sharing his expertise in advanced ultrasound techniques for sports medicine and orthopedics.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Akarakian enjoys playing tennis, working out, traveling, and stock trading.
